Footage from the 1990 event

'The Lost Seal' narrates the true story of Antarctic scientists discovering a weddell seal inland in the McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica. Video cameras and electronics can be very fragile in cold places, but one of the scientists who encountered the seal was able to capture amateur footage of the seal's adventure.

This original footage filmed in 1990 shows the lost and tired young weddell seal eating snow in the Dry Valleys.

Next, the seal was coaxed into a helicopter sling load for the ride of its life across the ice!
